In the Main Event heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, 23-0-1 (20), knocked out Bogdan Dinu, 18-1 (14), Bucharest, ROM, at 2:45 of the fourth for the interim WBA-NABA and vacant WBO NABO titles.
In the opening round Dinu used a good jab. Miller landed a combination to the body of Dinu. Dinu landed half a dozen light punches to the head of Miller. Dinu landed a combination to the body of Miller. Just prior to the bell, Dinu landed a right to the chin of Miller. In the second round Dinu moving backwards landed several left hooks. Dinu landed a triple jab to the chin of Miller.
In the third round Dinu lands effective jabs keeping Miller on the defense. Miller landed a combination to the body of Dinu. A low blow warning from referee Bill Clancy, gave a 5 minute rest to Dinu. In the fourth round Miller landed a right but got countered by a combination to the chin of Miller. Miller dropped Dinu with a body shot. Dinu just beat the count of “9”. Miller jumped on him with a left hook to the head dropping him again. Dinu made little effort to beat the count causing referee Clancy to wave it off.
“If I can’t get AJ then the Whyte winner,” said Miller.
In the co-feature Middleweight “King” Gabriel Rosado, 24-11-1 (14), Philly was held to a disputed draw by Luis “Cuba” Arias, 18-1-1 (9), Milwaukee, WI, over 12 rounds, for the WBO Latino Middleweight Title.
In the opening round Arias landed the first solid punch with a right to the body of Rosado. Arias countered Rosado with a right to the chin. Arias landed a combination to the body of Rosado. With about 30 seconds left in the round Rosado landed his first solid punch a right to the body of Arias. In the second round Arias blocked several of Rosado’s lead rights before he landed one on the chin. Arias landed a right to the head followed by a left hook to the body of Arias.
In the third round Rosado landed a combination to the head of Arias. Arias landed a chopping right to the head of Rosado. Arias landed a solid left hook to the head of Rosado. Rosado landed the last punch a lead right to the chin of Arias. In the fourth round Arias landed a right on the top of Rosado’s head. Rosado used an effective jab on the chin of Arias through the first half of the round. Arias backed Rosado into a corner landing an overhand right to the side of Rosado’s head.
In the fifth round both did a lot of in fighting in a close round. Arias landed a big left hook to the chin of Rosado. In the sixth round Arias landed a left hook while inside to the head of Rosado. Arias followed Rosado around the ring landing several body shots.
In the seventh round Rosado went back to boxing Arias. Rosado landed a triple jab. Arias landed an overhand right to the head of Rosado having him against the ropes. In the eighth round Rosado boxed well before Arias landed a good left hook to the body of Rosado. Twice Arias missed with a left hook over a crouching Rosado who countered with rights to the body of Arias.
In the ninth round Rosado drove Arias to the ropes with rights to the head and uppercuts to the chin of Arias having him in trouble. Arias looked spent. Just prior to the bell, Rosado landed a huge right hand to the head of Arias. In the tenth round Arias landed a good right uppercut to the chin of Rosado. Arias landed a right cross to the head of Rosado.
In the eleventh round Arias landed a good right cross on the chin of Rosado. For the most part of the fight Rosado has slipped as many punches that Arias had landed. Rosado landed several left hooks to the body of Arias. Rosado and Arias exchanged short rights to each others chins. Rosado landed a left hook to the chin but was countered by a right from Arias.
In the twelfth and final round Arias landed several overhand rights to the head of Rosado. A clash of heads caused a cut over the right eye of Arias inside the first minute of the round. Rosado landed a hard left hook on the cut. The referee warned Rosado twice about hitting behind the head. Arias, was holding on as Rosado lands several overhand rights to the head.
“I’m used to fighting at 147 so 151 is heavy for me. I had to change my team a little bad. I had bad habits. I have one of the best trainers in the world in Robert Garcia and signed with Eddie Hearns and I’m happy with him,” said Arias.
Scores were Sutherland 116-112, Munoz 116-112 and Holderfield 114-114. This writer had it 116-112 Rosado.
Former WBA Lightweight champion fighting at Super Welterweight Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios, 35-4-1 (26), Oxnard, CA, stopped Ramon “Checkmate” Alvarez, 27-7-3 (16), of Guadalajara, MEX, in a war at 0:38 of the ninth round.
In the opening round Alvarez rocked Rios with a right hand to the chin. Alvarez and Rios are throwing leather. Rios at an all-time high in weight looked sluggish. In the second round Alvarez landed a chopping right to the head of Rios. Rios came back with a double left hook to the chin of Alvarez. Rios pressured Alvarez against the ropes for half a minute. Rios rocked Alvarez with seconds remaining in the round with a right to the head.
In the third round Rios had Alvarez pinned to the ropes landing punch after punch. Alvarez lands several left hooks coming out of a crouch to the chin of Rios. They were exchanging punches at the bell. In the fourth round Rios was landing chopping rights as Alvarez landed left hooks all to the head. Rios landed an uppercut to the chin and got countered by a left hook to the chin by Alvarez.
In the fifth round both fighters pick up where they left off in the previous round throwing leather. Alvarez is staying against the ropes as Rios outlands him two to one. It was an all-action round by both fighters. In the sixth round Alvarez opens up on Rios. Rios followed Alvarez around the ring landing good shots to the head. They threw punches in bunches.
In the seventh round Alvarez comes out firing shots to the head of Rios. Rios landed a solid right to the head of Alvarez hurting him. Alvarez gets hit and backed into the ropes with hands to his side countering occasionally. Alvarez landed a solid left hook to the chin of Rios. In the eighth round Rios flurried with four punches to the head of Alvarez. Alvarez landed several right uppercuts to the chin of Rios. A pair of rights from Rios on the chin of Alvarez had him out on his feet. Rios landed for punches on the chin of Alvarez who against the ropes was defenseless causing referee Thomas Taylor jumped in and waved in off.
Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Middleweight Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, 7-0 (2), of Flint, MI, defeated Hanna “The Classical Warrior” Rankin, 5-3 (1), of Glasgow, SCOT, over 10 two minute rounds for the IBF World Female and WBA World Female and vacant WBC World Female titles.
In the opening round Shields landed a right to the chin of Rankin. Shields landed four unanswered punches to the head of Rankin. In the second round Rankin’s jabs fell short but the right to the chin of Shields didn’t. Shields with hands to her side landed a right to the chin of Rankin. Shields landed a big right. Rankin landed a left hook to the chin of Shields who countered with a right hand to the head of Rankin just prior to the bell.
In the third round while inside Ranking landed half a dozen punches to the body of Shields. In the fourth round Shields landed several combinations to the head of Rankin. Shields landed a short left hook to the chin of Rankin. Shields landed a counter right to the chin of Rankin.
In the fifth round Shields countered a Rankin jab with a straight right to the chin. In the sixth round Rankin landed a right to the chin but was countered by a left hook from Shields on the chin. Shields landed a pair of right’s to the head of Rankin. In the seventh round Shields landed a double left hook countering Rankin’s jabs. Shields got hit with a right to the head and countered after the bell with a right to the head of Rankin.
In the eighth round Shields landed a right hook to the chin countering a jab from Rankin. Shields landed a combination to the head of Rankin just prior to the bell. In the ninth round Rankin landed a lead right to the chin of Shields. There was a clash of heads. Shields landed a pair of rights to the head of Rankin.
In the tenth and final round Rankin landed a short right to the head of Shields who countered with a pair of left hooks to the head of Rankin. Shields landed a solid right to the head of Rankin.
Scores were 100-90 on all 3 cards while this writer had it 99-91.
Light Heavyweight Anthony Sims, Jr., 17-0 (16), of Plainfield, IND, stopped Colby Courter, 13-13 (10), of St. Joe’s, MO, at 0:40 of the second round.
Flyweight and 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist Nico Hernandez, 6-0 (4), of Wichita, KS, defeated southpaw Josue Morales, 8-8-3 (0), of Houston, TX, over 8 rounds.
In the opening round it was Morales controlled with his jab. In the second round Morales landed a straight left to the chin of Hernandez. Hernandez drove Morales to the ropes landing a solid left to the chin of Morales. Hernandez ended the round with a straight right to the chin of Morales.
In the third round Morales pushed Hernandez back several steps with good jabs. Hernandez turned southpaw and landed four unanswered punches. Hernandez landed hooks with the left and right to the body of Morales. In the fourth round it was closed but Hernandez seemed to pull it out.
In the fifth round Hernandez flurried with half a dozen unanswered punches. Hernandez switched to southpaw and back to orthodox landing body punches. In the sixth round Hernandez back up Morales with a flurry of punches. Morales landed a lead left to the chin of Hernandez. Hernandez pushed Morales in the ropes landing three left hooks to the body.
In the seventh round Hernandez had his way out boxing Morales. In the eighth and final round Hernandez showed his excellent hand speed showing up Morales.
