As a boxing writer for 12 years and at the age of 74 I have seen and the tube, film etc and attended great boxing matches. I am not a fan of MMA though many in the younger age bracket love its brutality.
The MMA and Bare Knuckle just doesn’t interest me as a pure boxing fan. I even have showed some interest in Kick Boxing. I’m not into professional wrestling. All of the above are as big if not bigger at the box office most likely except a big PPV boxing event.
All that said how about “Tag Team Boxing?” The brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko would certainly be a team. Can you imagine “Sugar” Ray Robinson and Henry Armstrong as a team at welterweight? Who could beat them?
Ali and his brother? Buddy and Max Baer? Tyson and Frazier? Greb and Conn? I could go on and on. This is not serious on my part but one has to wonder “what’s next?”
We now live in a brutal society and pure boxing may not interest the younger generation. Hagler and Hearns? Foreman and Lyle? Now they would probably show interest in those matches from back in the day. The days of Carmen Basilio vs Tony DeMarco, Gene Fullmer vs Basilio and the many brutal matches in the past may also interest them.
