Is it possible for Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to win a fight in Las Vegas even if they bring in out of state judges? This writer does not think so! What does that tell you about the NV commission?
What do all but the IBO organizations have against GGG? I look at Fight News rankings of the organizations and he is not ranked in any organizations of the four they show. The IBO has him listed as No. 1. Is GGG the Donald Trump of boxing?
We know GGG won the first Canelo fight easily. Because he boxed instead of trying to knock out Canelo in the rematch he lost in a closer fight though still controversial. One article I read said “the WBC insists GGG fight Charlo!” How do you tell someone who just lost his world title and you do not have in the rankings tell you who to fight? They won’t insist Canelo fight Jermall Charlo. I don’t know why some people are so high on the Charlo’s. Who have they fought lately?
Tom Loeffler the promoter for GGG says they are looking at Ryota Murata the lesser WBA champion and then WBO champion Saunders. I hope Loeffler NEVER lets GGG fight for the WBC title!
I have been a fan of GGG’s from the first time I saw him. I was able to talk to him briefly via the phone in camp due to a Philly sparring partner. He is a gentleman. Andre Ward wouldn’t give me the time of day while standing next to him. And they say he’s a “nice guy?”
Having the rematch with Canelo cost GGG the IBF title and a chance for the WBO title. Now Billy Joe Saunders is in trouble and might lose his WBO title. Facing the vacant IBF winner between Danny Jacobs and Sergiy Derevyanchenko makes more sense. Jacobs skipped the second weigh-in on the day of the fight with GGG who came in at 170 which means Jacobs had to be 180 or 185! No wonder he took a good punch. Jacobs deserved a rematch. Canelo didn’t earn one after the first fight. The Mexican controlled WBC favor Mexicans De La Hoya and Canelo.
Several would call GGG out but few would ever sign the contract. Now it seems some want to fight him maybe for a good payday and if the fight was in Nevada.
Granted GGG should have thrown more power punches than his solid jab this time. First time he had Canelo running the last seven rounds. I’m disappointed one of the best judges in the business Steve Weisfeld had Canelo ahead in the rematch.
With HBO dropping out of the fight business both GGG and Canelo are being affected. “Bob Arum approached us already. We have always had a great relationship with Bob Arum, ESPN is a great platform,” Loeffler said.
UK Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchbox might be an alternative but it would not pay what Showtime (Al Haymon) would. DAZN is the new kid on the block. The disrespect the business and organizations show GGG makes boxing fans sick. He doesn’t play to the crowd and jump on the ropes like Canelo did after the first one. Notice he didn’t do it after the second one? At both GGG and Canelo fights the majority of the boxing writers favored GGG.
Does GGG have to have a “fight to the finish” in order to be treated fair? It’s a sad day in boxing when this kind of partiality is shown!
