Premier Boxing Champions & Mayweather Promotions put on a 10 bout card Friday at Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, in Las Vegas, NV., over Bounce TV.
Lightweight southpaw Ladarius “Memphis” Miller, 17-1 (5), of Las Vegas, NV, won a decision over Dennis “The Surgeon” Galarza, 16-3 (9), out of Orlando, FL, over 10 lackluster rounds.
In the first round Galarza came forward as Miller was ready to counter. There were few punches thrown other than a jab by both boxers. Galarza took the edge in the round. In the second round the lack of action continued up until the final minute when Miller landed a lead left to the chin of Galarza. Just prior to the bell, Galarza landed a right to the chin of Miller.
In the third round Miller continues to put the jab out but it continues to fall short. Galarza keeps coming forward with little offense. At the end of the round Miller landed a lead left to the chin of Galarza. In the fourth round the lack of action continues. Miller landed his best punch up to this point landing a left hook to the head of Galarza. Just prior to the end of the round Galarza landed a right and left to the head of Miller.
In the fifth round Galarza was waiting too long with Miller putting out jabs that most fall short. Galarza landed a long right to the head of Miller. Miller ended the round with a left to the head of Galarza. In the seventh round under a minute gone Miller lands a lead left to the chin of Galarza. Galarza backed Miller into a corner landing a lead right to the head. Miller had his right hand hanging down with little landing. In the eighth round more misses than landing punches by both boxers. The crowd in attendance were vocal, but it doesn’t seem to help get any action started. Galarza landed a long right to the chin of Miller.
In the ninth round Miller slipped to the canvas. Upon rising Galarza moved him into a corner but only able to land one right hand. The lack of action continued. In the tenth and final round there was hardly a punch landed through the first minute of the round. Neither fighter seemed to want to take a risk with the fight on the line. Kenny Baylis was the referee.
Scores were 99-91, 97-93 and 96-94. This writer had it 95-95.
Super lightweight Juan Heraldez, 14-0 (8), North Las Vegas, NV, easily defeated Kevin “Playboy” Watts, 12-3 (5), of L.A., CA, over 10 rounds.
In the first round Heraldez showed good hand speed. Just over a minute into the round he dropped Watts on the seat of his trunks starting with a jab, missed with a right and landed a left uppercut to the chin of Watts. Half a minute later a right hand from Heraldez to the head rocked Watts. Watts was able to get through the round. In the second round Heraldez continued coming forward landing occasional right hands while Watts keeps his hands high. Except for the knockdown it was a similar round as in the first round.
In the third round Watts landed a left hook but got countered by Heraldez with a right to the chin. Watts started aggressive but that didn’t last long. Heraldez took over chasing him down. In the fourth round Watts doesn’t seem able to let his right hand go. Heraldez kept after Watts outworking him but not able to get through the high guard of Watts. Watts landed a left hook and had the second one blocked by Heraldez just prior to the end of the round.
In the fifth round Heraldez worked his jab trying to cut off the ring. He’s won every round so Watts has to sooner or later throw the right hand hoping to get lucky. Watts kept using his jab but hasn’t gotten that left uppercut in since the knockdown in the first round. Watts continues to use his left hook getting several in on the ever coming in Heraldez. In the sixth round Heraldez landed a left hook to the head of Watts knocking him back several steps. Heraldez landed a straight right to the mid-section of Watts. Watts landed a solid jab putting Heraldez back several steps and on the move.
In the seventh round inside the first minute Heraldez landed a lead right to the side of the head of Watts. Heraldez landed a left hook followed by a right to the head of Watts. Each round seems to follow a pattern of the previous round. In the eighth round Watts took the lead knowing he needs a knockout to win. Watts landed a left hook and immediately got countered with a right hand to the side of his head by Heraldez. Heraldez took over at the halfway mark tracking Watts down. Near the end of the round Heraldez landed a right uppercut that Watts ducked into.
In the ninth round Watts landed a combination to the body and head of Heraldez but failed to follow up. Heraldez landed a triple left to the body and head following with a left and right of Watts just under a minute left in the round. With seconds to go there was a clash of head causing a cut along the left eyebrow of Heraldez. In the tenth and final round Heraldez is moving around like knowing he is head and not wanting to take any chances as Watts tries to cut off the ring with little success. Even moving around the ring Heraldez is out landing Watts. Robert Byrd was the referee.
Scores were 100-89 twice and 98-91. This writer had it 100-89.
In the co-feature both boxers a little over the super welterweight limit Sharif “The Lion” Bogere, 32-1 (20), of Uganda living in Las Vegas, NV, won a lopsided decision over Oscar “La Quina” Bravo, 23-8 (11), of Santiago de Chile, Chile, over 10 rounds.
In the first round Bogere used good hand speed getting through the defense of the oncoming Bravo. Bogere landed a 3-punch combination to the head of Bravo. Bravo received a cut over the left eye. In the second round Bogere landed a triple jab starting the cut bleeding again over Bravo’s left eye. There were too many clinches for referee Russell Mora in both rounds. Bogere landed a solid right uppercut to the chin of Bravo.
In the third round Bravo continues to come forward but ate too many jabs. Bogere landed a 3-punch combination to the head of Bravo. Bogere was countered with a right to the chin by Bravo. The cut Bravo received earlier doesn’t seem to be any worse. In the fourth round Bravo was warned using the heel of his glove by referee Mora. Bravo pinned Bogere against the ropes with both fighters exchanging punches. Bogere landed a right uppercut then moved a step to his right and landed another right to the chin of Bravo.
In the fifth round Bogere landed a right uppercut followed by a left hook to the head of Bravo. Bogere landed three rights to the head and chin of Bravo. When Bravo got inside he landed a pair of chopping right hands to the head of Bogere. In the sixth round Bravo landed a combination to the head of Bogere who countered with a right to the chin of Bravo. Bogere has no trouble moving from side to side landing rights to the head of Bravo. Bogere landed a three left hooks to the head of Bravo.
In the eighth round Bravo continued coming forward with his head lowered walking into uppercuts by Bogere. Bravo at the middle of the round landed a good right to the head of Bogere. It may have been the first round Bravo won. In the ninth round Bogere landed a short right uppercut to the chin of Bravo. Bogere landed a pair of rights to the head of Bravo. Bogere landed a 3-punch combination to the head of Bravo and repeated it seconds later. Bogere pinned Bravo against the ropes with half a minute left in the round giving him a pounding.
In the tenth and final round Bravo continued to come forward eating leather from Bogere. Under a minute Bravo landed a right, left to the head of Bogere. With seconds left in the fight Bravo flurried to the body before Bogere landed a round ending right to the head.
The scores were 100-90 twice and 99-91. This writer had it 99-91.
