In a sport that is known for brutality and tragic backstories, the backbone of so many successes in the ring is often rooted in fatherhood. Whether it was a father who dragged his young son to the boxing gym to begin acquainting him with the sweet science, or the birth of a child that inspired a boxer to dedicate himself fully to the craft, the love of dads is a strong undercurrent in the sea of blood and sweat that is boxing.
On June 10, the Philadelphia father-boxers who will be competing on June 29 at Parx Casino® gathered for a first-of-its kind photo shoot. These dedicated fathers, along with their families, joined together at Joe Hand Boxing Gym to create memories and discuss the importance of a father’s role, and the impact that fatherhood has had on these boxers.
For Father’s Day we wanted to share a different side of these fighters. These fighters are the pillar of the upcoming Xcite Fight Night event, but more importantly they are the support, strength and heroes of the children that call them Dad.
The video below is a preview of the conversations. During the next week, we’ll be distributing videos for many of the boxers involved in the June 29 fight card, including main-eventer Miguel Cartagena, PGW foreman Marcel Rivers, and Isaiah Wise. |
