Saturday February 17th USA Showtime will feature three bouts including two Philadelphia contenders which could spell a future Philadelphia fight against each other. Event will be held at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino Event Center in Las Vegas, NV.
Former 2-Division Champion Philadelphia’s Danny “Swift” Garcia, 33-1 (19), takes on former WBA World Lightweight Champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios, 34-3-1 (24), in a 10 round bout. Garcia is now No. 2 in both the WBA & WBC.
Also on the card will be Philadelphia southpaw “The New” Ray Robinson, 24-2 (12), taking on Cuban Yordenis Ugas, 20-3 (9), out of Miami, FL, with the winner becoming No. 2 in the IBF rankings.
Robinson has won his last 13 bouts and hasn’t lost since 2010. It will be his first fight since June of 2017 due to being avoided by many of the top contenders. Ugas has won his last 5 fights.
“Obviously this is the biggest fights in terms of advancement for Ray’s career to date. Hopefully in getting the top ranking in the IBF and the exposure from Showtime it will put him in a territory where he can’t be avoided anymore,” said David McWater (Robinson’s Manager).
Robinson’s management has been trying unsuccessfully to get Garcia in the ring and hopefully in a Philadelphia venue in an elimination bout for a world title for some time.
Also on the card defending his WBC World Super Middleweight title is David “El Bandera Roja” Benavidez, 19-0 (17), of Phoenix, AZ, defending his newly won title he won in September against Romanian Ronald Gavril, 18-2-1 (14), out of Las Vegas, NV, by split decision in a rematch.
