Where did all these young prospects come from out of Philadelphia and the nearby area? This writer has written two articles one on the Fab Four who are 31-0-1 headed by 20 year-old welterweight Jaron “Boots” Ennis, 10-0 (8), following in the footsteps of his father-trainer “Bozy” Ennis, and brothers “Pooh” and Farah. “Bozy’s Dungeon” has been their training grounds in North Philadelphia. Ennis is scheduled this Saturday in VA and next month in Atlantic City.
The other three are Justin “Hands of Stone” Jones, 4-0-1 (2), who has been limited with as many fights though turning professional in April of 2016 with Ennis to some hand injuries. He is 23 and trained by Hamza Muhammad out of the James Shuler Gym in West Philadelphia. Both Ennis and Jones are managed by Cameron Dunkin and promoted by Victory Promotions.
Bantamweight 20 year-old Christian Carto, 9-0 (9) is a 2015 National Amateur champion who trains out of the Mickey Rosati Gym and trained by Rosati in South Philadelphia. He is scheduled to fight in Atlantic City in June. He is a show stealer with a boxer-puncher style.
Super heavyweight 21-year old Darmani “Tight” Rock, 8-0 (5), has been hampered by hand injuries. He is trained by his father Wayne “Wiz” Rock and promoted by Jay Z’s Roc Nation. He won the 2015 National Golden Gloves. He has yet to fight in his home city of Philadelphia.
Super bantamweight 25 year-old Manny “Major Pain” Folly, 10-0 (8) may be joining the Fab Four making them the Fab Five. The 3 year veteran of the city’s police force is trained and managed by Buddy Osborn at his Rock Ministry Gym in the Kensington section of the city.
Three Philly area Latino’s are led by 17 year-old Branden “The Gift” Pizarro, 5-0 (2), trained by “Bozy” Ennis and his father Angel Pizarro at “Bozy’s Dungeon” and promoted by Hard Hitting Promotions. Two Top Rank boxers not in the city of Philadelphia but fight there are super featherweight 17 year-old Joseph “Blessed Hands” Adorno, 3-0 (3) of Allentown, PA, who is trained and co-managed by his father Anibal and west coast well known trainer Robert Garcia. Adorno is scheduled in the near future to fight in Chicago. The other is from Berlin, NJ, is an 18 year-old lightweight southpaw Victor “The Bull” Padilla, 3-0 (3), trained by Raul “Chino” Rivas, in Cherry Hill, NJ. He was born in Puerto Rico before ending up in Berlin.
We can go on and on about Philly prospects like 21 year-old super bantamweight Angel Pizarro, Jr., 2-0 (1), 21 year-old super lightweight Jeremy Cuevas, 3-0 (2), 25 year-old featherweight Vidal Rivera, 5-0 (4), out of Camden, and 24 year-old super featherweight Donald “No Love” Smith, 4-0 (3). Philadelphia has had 8 fights with one scheduled through May keeping all of these boxers busy.
