The Brick City’s own Shakur Stevenson reached the 2016 Olympics bantamweight final with a walkover of injured Russian boxer Vladimir Nikitin.
Brick City Boxing wishes Stevenson the best of luck when he takes on Cuba’s Robeisy Ramirez on Saturday. By making the finals, Shakur has guaranteed he will win either gold or silver. This will be the first gold or silver medal for a male American boxer since Andre Ward captured gold in 2004.
“I always want to fight, but once I found out I wasn’t fighting [Nikitin], I kind of liked it,” Stevenson said. “I can use the extra days off. Once I found out I wasn’t fighting, I just kept moving to Saturday.”
