Magomed’s family is holding vigil at Roosevelt Hospital as we continue to raise money for medical bills that could run in the hundreds of thousands.
Magomed remains in a medically-induced coma and is on life support, his wife now at his side in the intensive care unit of Roosevelt Hospital.
His condition has changed little in the past few days since he had a blood clot and part of his skull removed from his brain.
His supporters expect the bills to run in the “$100,000s.” While some of the costs will be paid for by the event promoter’s health insurance, apparently, only a small fraction will be compensated for- a number estimated at $50,000- because of a cap on the insurance. To settle the rest of the eventual bill, Ring 10 was enlisted to establish a fund. His promoter said that Abdusalamov’s condition has improved since the weekend when he was stricken with a 104-degree fever following surgery that led to Abdusalamov suffering a stroke. His condition has since calmed down, the swelling on his face subsided, and he remains in stable condition.
Still, it’s a mystery as to what type of condition he will be when he finally awakens from the coma, and doctors have yet to give a timetable for when they expect him to wake up.

Magomed Abdusalamov is a Russian heavyweight boxer best known as Russian amateur champion 2005 and 2006 at super heavyweight, and since 2008 as a heavyweight professional boxer based in the USA.
Magomed Abdusalamov was in a medically induced coma Monday following a brain injury suffered in a brutal fight with Mike Perez on Saturday night. Perez won a 10-round unanimous decision against Abdusalamov in an extremely violent slugfest at the Theater at MadisonSquareGarden in New York in an HBO-televised bout on the undercard of middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin’s defense against Curtis Stevens.
The 32-year-old Abdusalamov (18-1, 18 KOs) suffered an apparent broken left hand and nose during the fight in addition to cuts and bruises. He was taken to Roosevelt Hospital in New York for treatment after the fight. However, he also complained of a headache, and when he was examined at the hospital, a small brain bleed was discovered. Abdusalamov had brain surgery to remove the blood clot. A small piece of his skull also was removed to relieve the swelling in his brain, and he was placed in a medically induced coma, which is used to help reduce the swelling.
The latest update to his condition is, sadly, not a good one. Abdusalamov is now on life support as his condition has worsened. Shortly after being put into the coma, his condition stabilized. However, he has since suffered a stroke, resulting in his current condition.
Ring 10 urges everyone to please consider donating to help with his mounting medical bills.
“We are going to do what we need to do for Magomed. He and his family are going to need our help,” Lewkowicz said in a statement released Tuesday. “He is going to need financial assistance for the medical bills for his treatment, and for his family who are faced with an urgent financial crunch from this terrible accident.”
“We cannot, as a boxing family, turn our backs on the brave men and women who compete in our sport when they need us most,” Lewkowicz continued.” We are going to do everything possible to help him get back on his feet. Magomed will never fight again, but he is a good man and a brave man with a nice family. We are going to make sure they all pull through this intact. That is the right thing to do. Every dollar will help.”
