Las Vegas (August 5, 2013) – Mayweather Promotions Light Middleweight fighter, Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith, was honored by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department last week as the first Las Vegas born World Boxing Champion. Post Floyd Mayweather’s highly publicized workout, the media gathered around the famous Mayweather Boxing Club to witness the honoring ceremony as Smith was recognized. Regina Coward-Holman, with LVMPD, and President of the Black Police Association presented the IBF Champion with the proclamation on behalf of the city naming February 23, 2013 “Ishe ‘Sugar Shay’ Smith Day.” “In my wildest dreams I would have never thought I would see the day when Las Vegas, my city and my hometown, would recognize my work and efforts to make this city proud.” Stated Smith during the presentation. “I am humbled and extremely touched by the proclamation I received today. I would like to thank my fans and family for all of their unconditional love and support. I am cognizant that all of this wouldn’t be possible without the help of my trainers and the opportunities I’ve been afforded by the Mayweather Promotions family.”
lshe Smith reached notoriety by being a participant in the reality television show “The Contender,” and prior to that was undefeated with a 14-0 record. After signing with Mayweather Promotions in 2012, the impressive fighter quickly became the first Las Vegas native to win a World Title in a unanimous decision over Cornelius Bundrage on February 23, 2013.
Ishe Smith’s Career Highlights Include: Winning a unanimous decision over Cornelius Bundrage on February 23rd, 2013 earning him the IBF Light Middleweight title. Taking three minor vacant titles in one fight; the vacant WBC Continental Americas Welterweight title, the vacant USBA Welterweight title and the vacant WBO NABO Welterweight title. Smith is currently the reigning International Boxing Federation Junior Middleweight World Champion.
