This past week I had the opportunity to interview two dominant New Jersey boxing promoters. Gabe LaConte of First Round Promotions and Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions. We met at the Elite Heat Boxing Gym (managed by Vito Mielnicki)located in Newark NJ. Both men have a long history with boxing. Both also have long range future plans in the sport. Their alliance brings together decades of experience in every aspect of the sport from working a corner to business management of the fighters. There was no need to ask questions of either of these men as they spoke freely from the top of their heads giving a discourse on their lives in boxing.
Gabe LaConteI started in boxing as a corner man with Wali Muhammad worked two title fights with Tommy Parks and Paul DeVorce also. I went from a corner man to a trainer, then a cut man, and went on to get my manager
