On Saturday night, in a fight that was notable for showcasing very low defense from both fighters, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. scored a unanimous decision over John Duddy. The fight was action packed from start to finish, but it looked like both fighters had not much interest in utilizing some much needed defensive skills.
Duddy seemed to eat every punch thrown, and Chavez didn’t show great defensive skills either. Both fighters threw some decent punches, but it looked as if Duddy got hit much more.
To be honest with you, it was a decent club fight, and perhaps not one that should have been a Pay-Per-View.
If Chavez hopes to continue with success in the sport, he will need to really work on his defensive skills and also work on his punching power. Duddy ate so much leather, but Chavez could not hurt him. It seemed neither fighter had enough strength to dent a warm pad of butter.
