Thirty-seven year-old “Sugar” Shane Mosley proved that he can still bring the crowd to its feet. Although it took him 12 rounds to do it, Mosley struck the same paydirt that legends Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya did against a game Ricardo Mayorga.
Mosley at times struggled through 12 methodical frames, but he finally found the mark with a hard right hand that wobbled the 34 year-old Mayorga. Mosley followed that up with a left hand and another right that sent Mayorga to all fours.
Mayorga rose from the canvas with five seconds left in the round, but Mosley, of Pomona, CA, charged in with a crushing left hook that dropped Mayorga flat on his back. While Mayorga was inspecting the inside of his eyelids, the referee waved him off, just as the bell sounded.
Mosley, who was behind on one scorecard, moved to 45-5, 38 KO’s. Mayorga, of Nicauraga, dropped to 29-7-1, 23 KO’s.

Twenty-five year-old Andre Berto used bursts of energy to overcome a sparring partner-like Steve Forbes over twelve uneventful rounds. Berto landed some decent shots, but many of them were blocked by the Floyd Mayweather, Sr. trained Forbes.
Forbes rolled his shoulder and threw enough decent shots to keep Berto’s respect. The biggest drama came early in the fight when Forbes was cut by a Berto left hand. The referee ruled it an accidental head butt. Other than that, this fight could have been contested in the gym, as the verdict was never in doubt. Berto won by scores of 118-109 (twice) and 116-111.
Berto, of Winter Haven, FL, moved to 23-0, 19 KO’s. Forbes, 31, of Portland, OR, dropped to 33-7, 9 KO’s. Berto retained the WBC welterweight belt.
