On the Eve of the New York City Puerto Rican Day Parade, Carlos “El Indio” Quintana surely looked to kick off the celebration at nearby Mohegan Sun.
However, Paul “The Punisher” Williams stepped into the ring with razor sharp focus, and he proved that his first and only loss was likely a fluke. After losing a decision, and his WBO title, to Quintana back in February, Williams demolished the champion within the first round.
Credit must be given to Quintana’s promoter Lou DiBella, for making this rematch. Williams was a gracious champion who did not duck anyone, and when he lost to Quintana, he made no excuses. Now, the rest of the welterweight division has no excuse to fight Williams, and I believe that Williams is one of the best 147 pounders out there.
Perhaps Mr. Gooosen (Williams’ Promoter) and Mr. DiBella can get together again and make a Williams vs. Andre Berto match. Williams clearly has the goods, and Berto has been very impressive in his young career.
If Mr. DiBella makes Hatton vs. Malignaggi at MSG in the fall, then a Williams vs. Berto co-feature would sizzle.
