“The Boxing Banker” Fails to Cash In

By: Christopher Roche

Former Bank of America employee and U.S. Olympian Calvin “The Boxing Banker” Brock looked to regain his status as a title contender, but “Fast” Eddie Chambers closed the vault last night in Tacoma, WA.

Chambers, of Philadelphia, PA, left the ring with a tight split-decision victory, in a fight that really did not leave a memorable mark on the division. Brock, of Charlotte, NC, recently lost in a title shot against Wladimir Klitschko, and he entered the ring last night at 241 lbs., the heaviest of his career. Despite his massive weight advantage over Chambers, who weighed only 213 lbs., Brock failed to overpower his opponent.

The 32 year-old Brock was busy, especially in the early rounds, but the 25 year-old Chambers proved a little too quick for the former money man. Glen Hamada and Steve Weisfeld both scored the bout 115-113 for Chambers, while Tom McDonough saw it for Brock at 113-115. Chambers improved to 30-0, 16 KO’s, and Brock fell to 31-2, 23 KO’s.

The bout, part of Showtime’s successful Shobox series, lacked any major drama, despite the close decision, but Chambers moves one step closer to an IBF title shot.

This card marked the 100th edition of Shobox, and it was promoted by Goosen-Tutor Promotions, in association with Main Events.
