Sacramento, CA – September 29th, 2007.Light heavyweight titlist “Bad” Chad Dawson looked impressive in his second defense of his title against rugged veteran Epifanio Mendoza. Ripping uppercuts, straight lefts and getting more than a little rough with the challenger, Chad earned his nickname en route to a stoppage victory.
Dawson came out very aggressive from the outset, bullying Mendoza to the ropes and punishing along the ropes. Mendoza was game but he was no match for the young champion who attacked from all angles and had Mendoza ready to go multiple times.
The end came at 2:30 of round 4 as Dawson rocked Mendoza with uppercuts and lefts sending Mendoza back to the ropes. Dawson would unleash and the ref would mercifully step in.
” I think you are looking at the fastest light heavyweight in history” said promoter Gary Shaw”. ” Chad is just a babay in boxing terms. It is a dream of ours that he will one day be heavyweight champ of the world and I think he can do it.”
” I had a gamplan” said Dawson” and we followed it. If I lose to a guy on twleve days notice, then I am a fluke. I proved tonight I am not a fluke.”
” I believe that within a year, Chad will not just be the best light heavyweight in the world but the best fighter in the world ” said trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhamad.
” Right now I am focused on getting Tarver in the ring.” continued Dawson. ” If not, then I will fight whomever my people put in front of me.” .
