After many years of struggle, top amateur athlete, Jill Emery, has finally gotten her chance to fight for a belt in the US. On September 27th at the Tachi Palace, she joins an all women’s Main Event. Emery, who was the oldest woman on the USA boxing team will fight on the same card as the WBC World Champion Corina Moreno, who was the youngest member of that illustrious team.
Emery’s shot at the NABF Belt is her first step towards a World Title. If she wins, she becomes the WBC Mandatory in the Welterweight Division. Her coach, Mike Kozlovski says that Jill, who can fight in three weight classes, deserves to win. “She’s hard working and dedicated to her sport”.
As women get more chances in other countries, the US still lags behind. Here’s hoping that talented athletes like Jill Emery make difference in the perception of the sport.
