JUAREZ’ UNDEFEATED MIGUEL ROMAN TO FIGHT FEATURE BOUT ON
HOLYFIELD VS SAVARESE UNDERCARD
EL PASO, TEXAS—Juarez’ brightest young boxing star, the undefeated Miguel “Mickey Mouse” Roman (21-0), has been added in a feature bout on the June 30th, Holyfield vs Savarese card, scheduled for Saturday, June 30th at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center.
Roman (21-0, 15 KO’s) is scheduled to take on Jose Alonso (29-13-2, 14 KO’s) in a ten round Featherweight fight. The Roman vs Alonso contest will be one of seven fights on the card (see attached), which features 4-time World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield battling two-time World Heavyweight Contender, Lou Savarese in the main event.
Slated for the Semi-Main Event on the card is El Paso’s undefeated heavyweight sensation, David Rodriguez (25-0) taking on another undefeated prospect, Rick Dyer (13-0, Fort Smith, Ark.).
The June 30th fight against Alonso will be Roman’s second ring appearance in the United States, having fought in El Paso this past October 21st when he knocked out Andres Ladesma in the 3rd round.
According to Roman’s manager, Oswaldo Quigley of Juarez, is ready to take another step closer to a world title. “Now that Miguel (Roman) is in the world rankings, every fight becomes more important,” said Quigley of the #12 WBC World Rated Super Bantamweight.
“He is getting closer and closer to fighting for a world title and can’t afford any defeats at this point. But Mickey is in top condition and will take care of business in front of the home crowd. There will be lots of Juarez and El Paso boxing fans there to cheer him on.”
For promoter Kathy Duva, of Main Events, having Roman on the card is a big bonus for local fight fans. “We at Main Events are thrilled to have such a great young prospect on the card, especially being from right there in Juarez,” stated Ms Duva. “If he (Roman) can win (what should be a difficult fight) against a very tough Alonso, he will be on his way to the top ten and world title contention. ”
Tickets for the June 30 event are priced at $30, $40, $60, $100, $200 & $300 and are available at the UTEP Ticket Center and all Ticketmaster Outlets. They are also available online at www.ticketmaster.com.
