Our reporter on the ground in Colorado Springs, former boxer and trainer Angel Concepcion, just reported that his son, Angel Concepcion, 21, earned a spot in the quarterfinals of the USA Boxing National Championships. With this victory, Concepcion earned a berth in the USA Olympic Team Trials, and he will fight for the right to represent our nation in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. The Olympic Team Trials will be held in August.

Concepcion’s report had mixed results as several of the local fighters from New York and New Jersey were defeated, but we congratulate all of our local fighters in making it this far, and we are sure they have bright futures. There are also several local fighters who have yet to square off, and the next session begins at 6:00PM Colorado time.

Angel Concepcion of East Orange, NJ defeated Joshua Garza at 178lbs.
Jerry Belmontes of Corpus Christi, TX defeated Mike Perez of Newark, NJ at 132lbs.
Sammy DiPace of Las Cruces, NM defeated Victor Valenzuela of Passaic, NJ at 119lbs.
Cymone Kearney of Oakland, CA defeated Aleem Whitfield of Geneva, NY at 178lbs.
