AIKEN-GUERRERO ADDED TO TONEY-PETERS CARD…

By: Jim Amato

Live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on September 2nd, James Toney will meet Sam Peter in a pivotal heavyweight bout.

Added to the under card will be an IBF featherweight title fight between the defending champion Erik Aiken of Marysville, Ohio and challenger Robert ” The Ghost ” Guerrero.

Aiken may well be the ” Cinderella Man ” of 2006. In March of this year he dropped a six round decision to Johnny Edwards. Less then a month later he was in the ring at the Wolstien Center in Cleveland to meet former
world bantamweight champion Tim Austin. This was on the under card of Sergei Liakhovich’s victory over Lamon Brewster for the WBO heavyweight title.

Aiken shocked boxing fans by upsetting Austin via a sixth round knockout.Six weeks later Aiken was in the ring meeting undefeated IBF featherweight champion Valdemir Pereira of Brazil. Erik dropped the champion
and looked to be on his way to an upset when Pereira fouled out in the eighth round. Erik Aiken became the new IBF champion. His record now stands at 16-4-2. He has won twelve by knockout.

Robert ” The Ghost ” Guerrero from Gilroy, California is a formidable challenger. Robert is 18-1-1. He lost a twelve round decision to Gamaliel Diaz in 2005. They met in a rematch this year and Guerrero stopped Diaz in
round six for career KO number eleven.

It looks to be a very even match. May the best man win…
